Lavender Infused Massage Oil

Lavender makes a wonderful infused oil.

I'm using the "Simiplers" method which is the simplest method infusing your own oil. Simply fill a jar with dried herbs making sure to leave one to three inches of space so you can completely cover the herbs in a good quality carrier oil like extra virgin olive oil. Seal the jar with a tight fighting lid. Then set it in or near the sun to steep and shake everyday for about two weeks.

I use a fine mesh strainer lined with a clean muslin cloth to strain out the mark. Feel free to strain it a second time through a coffee filter if you notice finer sediment. Working with oil is messy. Although the oil is really great for your skin, using gloves will allow you to easily move from squeezing to pouring.

Don't forget to label your oil with the date, type of oil and herbs used. Because products without a label are useless.

Lavender is a great choice for massage oil. It's anti-inflammatory, has soothing calming qualities, and increases the rate of healing. Making your own massage oil is great because there are no preservatives or chemical shelf life extenders. Adding a little vitamin E or Wheat Germ Oil to your carrier oil will not only soothe the skin but also help naturally extend the shelf live of your oil. If stored out of light and heat you can expect a shelf life of one to two years or maybe longer  if stored in the refrigerator. Lavender contains all of the characteristics of a fabulous massage oil.
